4th quarter current event 3

http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/04/justice/new-york-marijuana/index.html?c=us NY gov: Small amount of marijuana no crime "New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is asking state legislators to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana that are in public view.". The purpose of the legislation is to avoid unnecessary misdemeanor charge for new York citizens. Cuomo said that blacks and Hispanics are disproportionately being the ones charged. He wants to bring fairness and consistency to the enforcement of marijuana laws. I read this article because this topic is such a mainstream topic of debate. I think its good that some government officials are not scared to state and take action in support of their opinions, even when it's on something as controversial as legalizing marijuana. Also, it was nice that the article provided information on the past and recent timeline of the events surrounding the legislative side of marijuana- a very well written article. I like following articles like this.
